Jamie Chung
Board President
Jamie has a dedicated career in residential real estate and mortgage finance. Over the past 20 years she has worked at various public and private home builders where her responsibilities include for pricing and sales strategy, production planning, recruiting, training and development, increasing market share, and profitability. She earned an MBA from Seton Hall University where she also taught a course in real estate finance course adjunct professor.
Frederick Shegog
Board Member
Frederick Shegog, Founder/CEO of The Message LLC, inspires, educates, and creates healthy lifestyles for all as a motivational speaker. Dumpster diving, panhandling, and drinking were once everyday activities for Shegog. Despite a decade of alcohol abuse and time spent homeless, Shegog transformed himself into a graduate with high honors. As a motivational speaker, he is on a mission to help others combat substance use disorder and mental health. Experienced in creating and facilitating workshops to address the community’s needs in collegiate recovery, substance use disorders, and mental health, he is changing how colleges serve/educate students in recovery and dealing with mental illness. Frederick was recently selected as a keynote for The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, which is “The country’s leading provider of professional development for community college faculty, staff, and administrators.” He was voted as a Philadelphia Region’s Black Men Icon of 2020 and was the selected commencement speaker at his graduation. Frederick graduated Summa cum laude from West Chester University. Lastly, Frederick was featured on Fox 29 segment For Goodness Sakes show with Bill Anderson. Elizabeth Amaya-Fernandez, MPH
Board Treasurer
Liz is an educator/trainer on sexuality, global health, and substance use prevention. They work full-time as a Senior Public Health Advisor at the Trudy Larson MD Institute for Health Impact at the University of Nevada, Reno. She has been working as an adjunct professor at various colleges & universities in New Jersey since 2006. Her courses include human sexuality, women’s health, global health, and other public health courses. Prior to joining the University of Nevada, Reno, Liz worked as a health educator at Rutgers University and William Paterson University. She has also worked as Director of Education at the National Latina Health Network. Liz is the founder and director of Artemis Retreats, LLC. They have a master’s in public health from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University. They live in New Jersey with their two children and partner where she writes poetry, is currently completing her doula certification, and engages friends in discussions on intuition and love.
Tim Rabolt
Board Member
Tim is a Communications Strategist for JBS International, primarily working for the RCORP-TA Contract (Rural Communities Opioid Response Program- Technical Assistance). He previously served as the Executive Director for the Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) as well as a Project Manager for Altarum, a Washington, D.C. based research and consulting firm. He holds strong competencies in nonprofit management, media and communications, strategic planning, and a variety of other skillsets rooted in business administration. Tim lives with his wife, Kelly, and his daughter, Nina in Wisconsin. He has been in recovery from addiction since April of 2011 during his senior year of high school in Wilmington, DE.
Monica Tapavalu
Board Member
Monica is a Data Privacy Professional who currently works in the education technology field. She has years of in-house experience in privacy and security compliance, contracts negotiations, and corporate matters. As a woman of Polynesian descent, Monica is involved in many Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives within tech. She is passionate about recovery, particularly among students in higher education, since she began her own recovery journey during law school. Monica is a first-generation college and law school graduate and looks forward to bringing more attention to recovery resources for students
David Henderson
Board Member
David is the founder of Giving Credit, a nonprofit fintech supporting peer-to-peer lending in low-income communities. David has spent the entirety of his career in the social sector working at the intersections of U.S. social welfare policy, data analytics, and software engineering. David was a Sugarman Practitioner in Residence at Princeton University’s School of Public International Affairs where he researched informal lending networks in low-income communities. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston where he is authoring a paper on calculating peer-to-peer indebtedness as part of households debt profiles.
Emily Newton
Board Member
Emily Newton, MBA, is the Chief Development Officer at Prevention Links, overseeing grants, fundraising, marketing, and data management. A young woman in long-term recovery from substance use and mental health challenges, Emily’s collegiate recovery journey transformed her life. Returning to the Rutgers Recovery House as a student, she led, advocated, and built strong relationships, finding her purpose in creating inclusive and accessible recovery spaces for youth. This experience fueled her passion for helping others and shaped her career in advocacy and support for recovery initiatives. Emily’s work continues to be driven by her dedication to empowering the next generation of youth in recovery.
Kevin Anglim
Board Member
Kevin is an HR professional who currently leads the compensation function at Vir Biotechnology. Having begun his recovery journey during his sophomore year of college, he is passionate about providing greater access to collegiate recovery programs. Similarly, he’s passionate about career development and helping students learn about the breadth of career paths they can take. Each year he looks forward to hosting a “Biotech 101” event for undergrad students from underrepresented groups. He graduated as a first-generation student from Hamilton College in 2016 and currently resides in Philadelphia. He is eager to serve on the Board of Students Recover and to help fulfill its powerful mission.

Community
Students Recover provides the first online recovery community specifically developed to support post-secondary students recovering from substance use and other mental health issues. We provide a culturally responsive community grounded in the science of harm reduction by hosting mutual aid groups and social spaces for students to come together and support each other and build community on their journey to wellness.
